EDMUNDS Cedar Rapids Frank R. Edmunds, 85, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Wednesday, June 16, 2021. Frank was born Nov. 3, 1935, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was the son of the late James and Mary (Jinoch) Edmunds.

On Sept. 19, 1954, Frank married Barbara E. (Hutton) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She preceded him in death on April 18, 2021. Frank was a member of the Cedar Rapids Cadets and the Cedar Rapids Kennedy and Jefferson Booster Clubs.

He was very proud of his Czech Heritage and was a part of the Federated Czech Sokol and the Czech Village Association, and also served as a board member of the Czech and Slovak Museum, as well as the president and groundskeeper at the Czech Village Cemetery. Frank was a member of St. James Methodist Church. Frank served as president of the Wrestlers Parents Club, the N.C.S. and the Guild.

Frank was a veteran in the Army Reserves from 1955 to 1963. Survivors include his children, Debra Sue Stallings of New Albany, Dennis Allen Edmunds of Chicago, Scott Eugene Edmunds of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Lisa Ann Pugh of Florence, S.C.; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Besides his wife, Frank was preceded in death by his parents; and four siblings, Jim Edmunds, Jerry Edmunds, Robert Earl Edmunds and Mary Ann Grenzel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Czech and Slovak Museum and Library. The family would like to thank the entire staffs at the Monticello Nursing and Rehab Center as well as the 5th Floor of St.

Hospital for all the care they showed to Frank while he was in their care. Condolences may be left for the family at www.cedarmemorial.com under obituaries. DUANE A. "SCHMITTY" SCHMIDT Arlington Duane A. Schmidt, 81, of rural Arlington, Iowa, died on June 19, 2021, at Maple Crest Manor, Fayette.

Funeral service: 2:30 p.m. Friday, June 25, 2021, at St. John Lutheran Church, Arlington. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Arlington, and for one hour before the service at the church on Friday.

TED LAWRENCE MCLEOD Cedar Rapids Ted Lawrence McLeod, 76, passed away at home surrounded by family on June 19, 2021. request was to be cremated and his ashes be spread around the McLeod Cabin and 11th Crow Wing Lake in Minnesota. There will be a celebration of life held at a later date. Murdoch- Linwood Funeral Home Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is assisting the family. Ted was born on June 30, 1944, to parents Frank McLeod and Jane Rall McLeod.

Ted graduated from Marion High School in 1962, where he competed in many sports and kept some lifelong friendships. After high school, he attended North Iowa Junior College to play football and made many more lifelong friends. During youth and teenage years, he spent many summers in Akeley, on the shores of the 11th Crow Wing Lake. parents were both teachers so in the summer the family: Mac, Jane, Karen, Ted and Clark, would head to Minnesota in homemade camper and set up at Municipal Camp Grounds. In 1959, Mac and Jane purchased a cabin on the lakefront of the 11th Crow Wing that was the start of family traditions and many great memories for story telling throughout all the years.

The McLeod cabin had become very dear to heart, especially over the last couple decades. He spent many week long vacations with family and watching his children and grandchildren make their own memories at the lake. Words cannot describe how much Ted enjoyed his time up north, it was his happy place. Ted was a huge stock car fan and loved Hawkeye Downs. He loved it so much he teamed up with a local driver along with his crew and purchased a Sportsman car.

The team was very successful. Ted would tell you, had the best driver and crew and true, they were. Thanks Tom, Skinny and Joe! Ted married Diane Slaymaker on June 15, 1965. They later divorced. On April 21, 2012, Ted married his longtime partner Val Willis.

Ted retired from the Cedar Rapids Police Department in June 1999, after 31 years of service. During his time with the police department, Ted was awarded the Medal of Valor. Ted loved watching his grandchildren compete in wrestling and cherished the time spent with all of them. He was also a big fan of touring small towns in Northern Minnesota, taking his chance hitting it big on pull tabs. He was an avid fan of NASCAR, the Hawkeyes or Cyclones (whoever was on TV) and the Minnesota Vikings.

He is survived by his wife, Val McLeod; son, Brian (Karri) McLeod; daughter, Summer Riley; stepchildren, Shawn Willis, Nichole (Shane) Lindaman and Natalie (Jon) Stark; brother, Clark (Mary) McLeod; grandchildren, Austin and Jake McLeod, Nolan and Brock Hromidko and Rylee Simpson, Mason and Austin Bond, Matthew and Emilee Lindaman, Nicholas, Courtney and Kiya Willis, Alissa and Lakota Bear Killer, King Braxton Sykora and Phoenix Riley; great- granddaughter, Spirit Bear Killer; nephew, Aaron (Tracy) McLeod; and nieces, Tammy (Mark) Berg, Angie (Brian) Lee and Holly (John) Gilliland. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister and brother-in-law, Karen and David Lindberg. The family would like to thank the staff at the Dennis Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for their terrific care while Ted was there. We would also like to thank great family friend, Pastor Rick Gail, for being by side during this difficult time and giving our family spiritual guidance. He had two sons, Curtis and Travis; a daughter-in- law, Heather; and a grandson, Milo. Tim graduated from Marion High School, then went on to receive a Degree from Upper Iowa University. He later completed a Degree from the University of Phoenix. career choice was in management and development. He chose to help others further their own path to success.

Tim was a contributing member of the following organizations, Mercy Medical Center, Aegon Asset Management, On Target Talent, Upper Iowa University, Skywalk Group, Novations Group McLeod USA and W.W. Granger. Tim enjoyed the outdoors and all sports, his favorite being baseball. Go Cubs Go A special thank you to all those who gave love and support to Tim. He touched so many lives.

He will be greatly missed. As per wishes, there will be no service. A celebration of life is planned for a future date. JEROME "JERRY" FRAKE Cedar Rapids A memorial Mass will be held for Jerome "Jerry" Frake at 10 a.m. Friday, June 25, at St.

Pius Church. DELHIA BEELNER "DEE" (TAPIA DE BEELNER) Cedar Rapids Delhia Beelner (Tapia de Beelner) passed away June 20, 2021, beloved wife of Randall Beelner. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 26, at St. Pius Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where family will greet friends one hour prior.

The Rev. Phil Thompson will officiate. Private interment will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Murdoch Funeral Home Cremation Service is assisting the family. Dee was born July 22, 1944, in La Mesita, Mexico, the daughter of Manuel and Belem Tapia.

She immigrated to the United States in 1964. Dee was united in marriage to Randall Beelner on Sept. 1, 1972, in San Diego, Calif. Dee was deeply religious and a member of St Pius Catholic Church. She worked at Northbrook Care Center until retiring in 2008.

PAULINE KATHERINE (SUEPPEL) MCAREAVY Iowa City Pauline Katherine (Sueppel) McAreavy, 87, died peacefully on Friday. June 18, 2021, at The Bird House Hospice Home in Iowa City following a brave battle with ALS. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, June 28, at 10 a.m.

at St. Catholic Church in Oxford with Father Robert Cloos officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday, June 27, 2021, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the church with a vigil at 5 p.m. Memorials can be directed to the Pauline Katherine McAreavy Memorial Fund.

The family intends to distribute funds to Iowa City Hospice, the Bird House and the Iowa ALS Chapter that supported her challenging journey. Pauline was born Aug. 21,1933, in Iowa City, the daughter of Francis William and Katherine C. (Striegel) Sueppel. She was raised in Iowa City and was a graduate of St.

High School. Pauline devoted her life to providing health care. She graduated from Mercy School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse (RN). She began her career as an nurse at Mercy Hospital and went on to serve as school nurse for over 30 years in the Clear Creek School District, retiring in 1995. She then went on to volunteer at Mercy Hospital for nearly 20 years up until the summer of 2020.

Continuing her devotion, even after passing, Pauline donated her remains for ALS research. Pauline ignited a fairy-tale romance from the first moment she saw Tom walk across the basketball gym floor in his white corduroy pants and immediately told her friend, is the man I am going to Pauline married Thomas McAreavy on Sept. 1, 1956, in Iowa City. Pauline and Tom moved to Oxford in 1959 where they were members of St. Church and Pauline served on the Oxford town council.

She served on the Johnson County Board of Health, was a member and volunteer with Mercy Hospital Guild, and had accumulated over 3,500 hours as patient advocate at Highland Ridge in Williamsburg. Pauline provided much community service to the school district, including starting the Christmas Basket Program, and was inducted into the Clear Creek-Amana Hall of Fame. Pauline enjoyed having coffee and pie on Tuesday mornings with the at the Oxford Sale Barn and lunch with her Mercy classmates (The Divas). She was an avid golfer and euchre aficionado. Most important to Pauline was time spent with family at their annual campouts and attending her and school events.

She was known to play cards and dominos to the wee hours of the morning with family and friends. Pauline is survived by her children, Michael (Karin) McAreavy of Phoenix, Mary (Dave) Bontrager of Iowa City, Mart (Brenda) McAreavy of Iowa City, Melinda (Bruce) Ball of Flushing, Morgan (Mary) McAreavy of Holstein and Matthew (Jody) McAreavy of Oxford; 16 grandchildren, Justin (Alana), Tyler (Karyn), Jasmine (KC), Jordan, Kylie (Mike), Tayler, Amanda (Matt), Sean (Morgan), Adam, Abra, Josh (Lyndsey), Madeline (Jamison), Patrick (Sarah), Annie Conor (Ben), Keyan and Kaden; 14 great- grandchildren, Corinne, Dakota, Olivia, Regan, Xander, Vaughn, Beckham, Quinn, Audrey, Conner, William, Penelope, Tommy and Ite; her siblings, Marilyn Simpson of Eldridge, Alice Finnegan of Tipton, and Paul (Carolyn) Sueppel and Ann Madsen, both of Iowa City; and sisters-in-law, Patricia Sueppel, Mercy Sueppel and Carol Sueppel, all of Iowa City. Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; parents, Frank and Katherine; her brothers, William, Robert, Francis and in-laws, Jerry Simpson, Sonny Madsen, Tom Finnegan, Judy Sueppel, John Francis (Joan) McAreavy, Mary Lou Harney and Terry McAreavy.
