Inhibit means "to get in the way of something." Examples: Ongoing construction inhibits traffic on the H1 freeway. I feel inhibited when you watch me work. Wearing a pencil skirt inhibits me from walking too quickly.
Prohibit means "to forbid." Examples: The dress code prohibits pencil skirts. Driving in the left lane is prohibited. I prohibit you from staring over my shoulder while I'm working!
